Deep Water Grouper

Dean Pruitt set up a meeting with Roy Crabtree and Phil Steele at NMFS today about the deep water quota not being met,we missed it by a little over 100 thousand lbs.
They have agreed to reopen it for a ten or twelve day period,our choice on the date.We were thinking after hurricane season so not to risk having it open during a storm.
Maybe Oct. or Nov. Any Comments or suggestions?

Hello Glen, all GFA members and visitors. Glen, I want to thank you and everyone involved for the wonderful job that you have done on the webpage. I think it is an invaluable tool for keeping everyone updated on the current issues and for providing a forum to exchange information and ideas. And on that note, I'm going to put it to use now. For those that don't know me, my name is Judy and I'm a devout supporter of Commercial Fishermen. Since my "better half" is a captain, I'm very familiar with the wonderful service that you guys provide and the hardships that you face. But even though you provide an excellent product for thousands (if not millions) of people, your employee base is relatively small and does not reflect the actual number of people's lives that the commercial sector touches. I have been working with Glen on increasing the GFA membership. The GFA, of course, is not just comprised of captains and crew. The GFA represents and fights for anyone involved in the industry which includes fishhouses, restaurants, supply houses, truck drivers, fish markets, seafood consumers, the tourism industry, etc. Your presence also sustains a historic way of life that cannot be allowed to perish. Your efforts affect many people and I believe that we need to get these people involved by becoming members to assist you in the battle that you are fighting for all of us. I'm asking ALL of you to help with the membership drive. We need you, your spouses, your children, your relatives, your neighbors, and everyone that they know that enjoys fresh (NOT farm raised or imported) seafood to become supporters. We need to show National Marine Fisheries and all interested parties the number of people that the GFA truly represents. If you are willing to help, you can either contact Glen or me (js34233@aol.com) and we will provide you with the membership forms. Please also get in touch with us with the names of any businesses or groups that you think we should contact. You can also have your wives/girlfriends/mothers/daughters get in touch if they wish to help as I am doing since many fishermen are offshore for long periods of time. And, whether you know 1 or 1,000 potential members, every single voice that we add will count. I hope to hear from you soon and I will provide any assistance that I can.

Council voted to drop size limit on red grouper to 18'',this isn't in affect yet so its still 20''
Grouper IFQ's are still on track,no dates on public hearing drafts but it for sure won't be until after the next council meeting in Texas,that will be in June.The IFQ A.P. meets again this month in Tampa.
